Metalsmith Patty Schwegmann designs and creates jewelry from silver and 18k gold. Her textured metal references objects from the natural world. She explores textures and shapes that she finds calming.
Schwegmann creates her pieces using traditional metalsmithing techniques such as sawing, drilling, rolling, and soldering. She creates patterns made from many small granules of silver and gold, and then frames these patterns as the centerpieces of her designs.
Patty Schwegmann is a scientist who has a passion for art. She has a BS in genetic biology and microbiology from Purdue University. During her last semester at Purdue, she fell in love with metalsmithing during an introductory metals course. She is primarily self-taught and has been making and selling jewelry professionally since 2006.
